- How long have you participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s?
I started walking back in 2004, when it was still the Memory Walk. I participated in that first Walk with my boyfriend, now husband, Jordan. In 2008, I started a friends and family team with my best friend Maggie called the Purple Brains and we’ve been walking together ever since. The team members sometimes change, but the mission has always been the same.
- Why do you Walk?
That answer has changed over the years, in the beginning, I was walking for my mom, Janet Blazer, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Although my mother’s fight ended in 2011, I still do, and always will, walk for her. However, I’m now a mother myself, and now I am also walking for my children’s future. I don’t want them to grow up in a world with Alzheimer’s disease.
Christina’s children – Ellynor and David – were both fundraising Champions at last year’s Walk!
- Why do you think it’s good to start fundraising early?
I like a get a jump as early as I can! I use social media to spread the word and let others know that I’m raising money, so the sooner you share, the more people you can reach.
- Do you have any fundraising tips for new Team Captains?
Social media is a great avenue to spread the word about the Walk. You can share the link to your Walk page easily and often. I also make sure to thank my donors on social media, this helps to spread the word and often inspires others to donate as well.
- What is your favorite thing about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s?
It sounds silly, but fundraising is FUN! I enjoy working on social fundraisers, such as having a night at a favorite restaurant where a percentage of the sales are donated to your team. This allows your team members to get out with friends and family while promoting the Walk and raising funds.
- What are you most looking forward to this Walk season?
I love the Walk itself, being there on Walk day, surrounded by your friends and loved ones, with thousands of others all with the same vision, a world without Alzheimer’s, is really a powerful experience.
- And finally, what do you like to do in your spare time when you are not trying to end Alzheimer’s?
I love spending time with my family, my husband Jordan, our kids Ellynor and David
- Anything else you would like to add?
