The Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter was recently recognized for outstanding service in the region by the National Association of Social Workers.

The Chapter won the Outstanding Service Award from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Ohio Chapter Region VII. The award was presented at a reception on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Ria Megnin, regional representative for NASW – Ohio Chapter, said, “one of the most important things we do as social workers is to figure out how to help people feel supported in meeting their goals… The awards are a chance to recognize the people who are helping those who need to access the services and the resources that will help them to achieve their best possible life.”

The Miami Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association was recognized, she said, because it “is one of the organizations that does that exceptionally well for our communities both for those who have Alzheimer’s and for those who love them and care for them and work so hard to make sure that we as a community are taking care of them at one of the most vulnerable points in their lives.”

The Chapter’s program staff leads the Chapter’s effort in providing community education, support groups for caregivers and for those with the disease; and care consultations with families to help connect them with needed resources. Last year, through staff and volunteer efforts, the Chapter was able to serve 3,278 individuals.

Rebecca Hall, Director of Care and Support for the Chapter, said, “I know I speak for our whole team when I say it was an honor to be recognized and it is an even bigger honor to provide care and support to those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia every day.”

Other honorees included:
