Volunteer MJ Uecker makes a difference as Support Group Facilitator

MJ Uecker has been a Support Group Co-Facilitator with our Caregiver Support Group at St. Leonard Senior Living for about a year. Support Group Facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences to better cope with and manage the shared challenges of dementia.

When asked why she volunteers, MJ stated, “I felt the need to get involved and help others. Alzheimer’s Association was the place I chose because everyone involved gives without expectation of receiving recognition or anything in return. It is an honor to work for an organization that does so much for individuals and the community.”

For MJ, the most rewarding for her about volunteering is “being with loving, caring people who become friends. It is rewarding to help someone see new options and know that someone cares!”

MJ volunteers in honor of her husband, Ron.
