Bridge is a game of strategy and skill and Miami Valley Bridge players have invested in an effort to protect the brain and help those with Alzheimer’s disease.
The Miami Valley Bridge Association presented a check for $8,682 to the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter for its The Longest Day® drive. The Longest Day® is a fundraising event supporting Alzheimer’s research, care and support.
The Bridge Association, which consists of clubs in Dayton, Lima and Bellefontaine, donated money from its American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Charity Foundation plus raised additional money in April during Charity Month and in June, said Georgia Banziger, president of the MVBA. “The Association decides where the money is going but it really comes from the players,” she said. Nationwide, the American Contract Bridge League has raised more than $4.7M for the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day®.
Banziger said they chose the Alzheimer’s Association to be the recipient of their fundraising because “we’re a brain trust here and we’ve had members who have gotten Alzheimer’s and we have had parents who have had Alzheimer’s.”
