Some 2018 Dayton Walk to End Alzheimer’s team captains received a pleasant surprise on Aug. 13, when an Alzheimer’s Walk flower was planted in their front yards.
Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter staff members visited the homes of more than 75 past team captains to encourage them to come back and register for this year’s Walk, which is Saturday, Oct. 5, at Fifth Third Field. The yellow petals said, “We Miss you!” and “Register Today.” With the flower was a Walk to End Alzheimer’s® registration form that people could fill out and mail back or they can save time and register online at alz.org/walk.
Staff members fanned out over parts of Dayton, Kettering, Beavercreek, Centerville and Bellbrook to make the deliveries. Karen Carter, Vice President of Development for the Miami Valley Chapter, said, “There are over 400 teams that come out to the Walk each year for the Dayton Walk to End Alzheimer’s and right now we have about half of those signed up so we know there are still plenty of folks out there who love to support our mission to fund groundbreaking research and to provide education and support to caregivers and the community.”
In some cases, staff members got a chance to talk with the team captains and present the flower in person. Carter said she loved talking to the team captains. “Each shared their personal stories of why they fundraise and how the Walk helps them to be a part of the fight to end Alzheimer’s.”
