Long-time volunteer Christina King and RetireMEDiQ were honored for their distinguished community work in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. The two received the 2019 Mission Champion Award at the Association’s New Frontiers in Research Community Forum.
The event, held Wednesday May 8 at Sinclair Community College, was the first part of the two-day Dimensions of Dementia Conference. The award, which is in its second year, recognizes an individual and a business who are dedicated to making the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s a reality.
Individual Winner, 2019 Mission Champion Award: Christina King
Christina King is fighting Alzheimer’s disease in honor of her mother, Janet Blazer. A passionate advocate, Christina involves her whole family in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® and is an Advocacy Ambassador, making her voice heard to legislators at both the state and national levels. She currently serves as an Ambassador to U.S. Representative Mike Turner. Christina was nominated by her friend, Marie McLaughlin. Marie wrote, “When I think of someone fighting Alzheimer’s until a cure is found, I think of Christina King.” Each year, Christina’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s team, Purple Brains, raises thousands of dollars to support Alzheimer’s research.
BUSINESS OR ORGANIZATION WINNER, 2019 MISSION CHAMPION AWARD: RetireMEDiQ
Since partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association, RetireMEDiQ and its employees have created social media campaigns and organized events to raise funds and awareness for the cause, have sponsored and participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, and this year will be expanding their partnership to support The Longest Day®. RetireMEDiQ has embedded the mission to end Alzheimer’s into nearly every aspect of the company. Last year the company donated $74,000 to the Miami Valley Chapter and the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
