Miami Valley Chapter named as WPCU Community Sunshine Champion

Our board members and management were wearing their sunglasses in honor of being selected as one of the two organizations chosen as a Wright-Patt Credit Union (WPCU) IMG_9520Community Sunshine Champion. WPCU announced a goal to raise $225,000 by June 2018 for its chosen Sunshine Community Champions – the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter and Junior Achievement of Dayton.

WPCU’s Sunshine Community Fund Charter was established to positively impact those who live in the communities it serves, with a specific focus in the following areas: financial education, financial programs/products/services, financial stability/recovery, and military troops, veterans and their families’ health and wellness programs.

The Alzheimer’s Association will help raise awareness of financial exploitation and train/educate financial professionals about the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s. We will also develop a military task force to build awareness and advocacy for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Junior Achievement will give young people the knowledge and skills necessary to own their economic success for the future.

The beneficiaries were chosen by a partner-employee led selection committee who reviewed over 20 applications. The selection committee participated in face-to-face candidate interviews and power presentations of their overall organization as part of their evaluation.

“We are so honored to be selected,” said Eric VanVlymen, Executive Director of the Chapter and Region 10 Director for the Alzheimer’s Association. “We will be able to make a huge impact helping two very vulnerable communities of people in our area with this invaluable financial support.”
