Be a Speaker’s Bureau volunteer to Raise Awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease

Brienne Blair

The Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter relies on dedicated volunteers to help move toward our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.

Volunteer Mission
The volunteers who serve in our speaker’s bureau help us spread awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia, educate families and the general public, and reach diverse audiences by delivering presentations to community organizations like the Rotary Club, Lions Club, care facilities, businesses, senior centers and places of worship. Speaker’s Bureau volunteers help families and communities learn more about the basics of dementia, how to recognize the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease, how to maintain a healthy brain and body, and what the Alzheimer’s Association can do to help those affected.

Volunteers become involved with our speaker’s bureau for many reasons. Many of them have been personally impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia when a loved one was diagnosed with the disease. Read on to hear from a few of our speaker’s bureau volunteers about why they became involved:

Why We Volunteer
Joe Stewart:
y first wife, Karen, passed away due to early onset Alzheimer’s, and we have two daughters who are now 50 and 46 years old. If either or both of them do inherit the disease, I want them to be the first survivors that we all wish to know. If they don’t become patients, I want to continue to be a voice for those caring for a loved one.”

Brienne Blair: “Alzheimer’s is widespread in my family. I feel it is my obligation to volunteer myself on behalf of my family and those who suffer from the disease. The staff and training make volunteering feel like you are making an impact.”

Warren Riffle: “Each time I present for the speakers bureau, I’m reminded of my family and other families impacted by Alzheimer’s. I’m reminded of the hard work required to care for someone with Alzheimer’s. I’m reminded of the financial and societal impact of Alzheimer’s. I’m glad to support an organization that’s working to end Alzheimer’s”

Volunteer With Us
If you’ve been impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia or you simply want to be a voice to help us create awareness around the disease, we need you to join us in the fight! We are currently in need of speaker’s bureau and health fair volunteers. Health fair volunteers attend local health fairs, community and sporting events, charity campaigns, and other public venues to provide information about Alzheimer’s disease, our programs and services, and ways to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s. All volunteers receive training and ongoing support and are required to go through an application and screening process.
